Star-like Flowery Coasters Pattern

Size:

Around 10 cms/4 inches from one side to the other.

Materials:

Yarn: Alize Bahar Batik (sport weight) 100% Mercerized Cotton.

Hook: 3 mm steel hook.

The yarn I used is a Turkish brand. You can use any sport weight  yarn you love working with.

Terminology Used:

Sl st	Slip stitch
ch	Chain
tr	Treble
dc	Double crochet
htr	Half treble

Special Stitches:

Bobble: A bobble stitch is a group of trebles that are joined together at both top and bottom.  We are doing groups of 3 and 5 trebles to form our bobbles.

How to do your Bobble? This is for a 3 trs bobble. For the 5 trs bobble follow the explanation but do the number of repetition required that is mentioned in the parenthesis.

Wrap the yarn around the hook, insert the hook in the required stitch, pull a loop through, wrap the yarn around the hook and pull through the first two loops, leaving one loop on your hook, repeat 2 (4) more times in the same stitch. Then wrap the yarn around the hook and pull through all loops closing your bobble.

Note that at beginning of the rounds your chain 3 counts as your 1st treble. So you will start your bobble from “repeat 2 (4) more times…” till the end.

Note:

o   Chain 3 counts as your 1st treble, or you can start with a standing treble. Tamara from Moogly does explain in it in a very easy way. Find the tutorial of how to do it Here

 Pattern:

Start with a chain 3 and sl st in 1st chain, or do a magic ring. There is a great video tutorial of how to do a magic ring again on Moogly which you can find here.

Round 1: Chain 3, 7 trs in the ring, sl st in the top of the beginning of ch-3. {8 trebles}

Round 2: Your bobble in this round will be the group of 3 trs.

(Check Special Stitches)

Sl st between the 1st and 2nd trs, chain 3, 1 bobble in same stitch as ch-3 (since it counts as your 1st treble), ch 1, * 1 bobble in the following space between trs, ch 1,* repeat from * to * 6 more times, sl st in 1st bobble. {8 bobbles/8 ch-1 spaces}

Round 3: Your bobble in this round will be the group of 5 trs.

Sl st in any ch-1 space, chain 3, 1 bobble in same stitch as ch-3 (since it counts as your 1st treble), ch 3, * 1 bobble in the following ch-1 space, ch 3,* repeat from * to * 6 more times, sl st in 1st bobble. {8 bobbles/8 ch-3 spaces}

Round 4: Sl st in any ch-3 space, chain 3, 3 more trs in this same space, ch 2, * 4 trs in the following ch-3 space, ch 2,* repeat from * to * 6 more times, sl st in the top of the beginning of ch-3. {32 trebles/8 ch-2 spaces}

Round 5: Sl st in the 1st tr of any 4 trs group, chain 3, 1 tr in each of the following 3 trs, ch 4, * 1 tr in each of the following 4 trs, ch 4,* repeat form * to * 6 more times, sl st in the top of the beginning of ch-3. {32 trebles/8 ch-4 spaces}

Round 6: Sl st in any ch-4 space, to make your 1st petal chain 1, 1 dc - 1 htr - 3 trs – 1 htr – 1 dc, repeat the previous petal combination in each of the following ch-4 spaces (without the ch-1 step) till the end of the round making a ch 4 after each petal, sl st in the 1st dc. {8 petals/8 ch-4 spaces}

Star-like flowery crochet coasetrs and table runner.

Hello everyone,

Today I will be sharing with you my  star-like flowery coasters. My husband gave me money on our 4th wedding anniversary to buy yarn and do something for myself. So, I went to the shop and bought some mercerized cotton yarn in rainbow colours as it is kind of expensive to buy here. That was last October for your information :)

My plan was to do a bag for myself but that did not work out because it is a fine thread. So, I thought of doing a blouse only to find out it won't be that light to wear. I kept trying and trying, and ripping and frogging that I ended up with all those small balls of yarn :D

And I just didn't like anything I crocheted. Especially that I wanted to come up with my own design for whatever I do with this yarn. I ended up bagging the whole lot away out of frustration, telling myself to just let's forget about it for now and take it out later.

Which is exactly what I did last month. I got my bag, took the yarn out, and just started crocheting those star-like flowery things :)

I did a few and then thought of crocheting them together to make a table runner and that was the outcome.

It isn't quite blocked or even finished yet, and the lightning sucks at the moment because "sunny" Egypt is not so sunny at the moment. I couldn't take a decent picture with my mediocre photographing abilities :))

I have been trying to round it off or even square it up but again I didn't like my attempts. Seems like I am going to be one of those designers, so picky. Again I put it away, but I am planning to have a go at it next week and hopefully have it done with.

Let me know if you would like to have a written pattern and perhaps I would be courageous enough to put up a tutorial for the coasters.
