Zooty Owl's Road trip Scarf

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the very first post of this new year :)

Today I am going to tell you about a very lovely pattern by Ms. Zelna Olivier the designer and creator behind Zooty Owl Blog. She did this very feminine road trip scarf in just under two hours while taking a road trip by car, hence the name :)

I liked the pattern very much but as it is winter here in Egypt - not so cold I know to many of you since it doesn't snow or get below zero in here! But seems that it is getting there in just few years :) Anyways, I wanted to make a couple of shawls for my mom and my grandmom to wear at home in this cold weather and as Zelna's design was so simple and easy yet very elegant I decided to do it in a bulky yarn using a 6.00 mm hook. I used a 100% acrylic Turkish yarn. You can find the patter Here

This is the shawl I made for my grandmom. The shawls were suppose to be a surprise but my mom saw the yarn and my daughter spilled the beans to her. She said to me in front of her that this is nana's (that is grandmother in Arabic) shawl and my mom being one herself thought that it was her's. The look on her face was priceless, she was thrilled until I told her that this one is for her mom. I have to admit that I wasn't going to tell her that I am making one for her and keep it a surprise but seeing her deflated face I had to tell her I am making her one as well.

I even took her to the shop and let her choose the colour and that is what she choose :)

I bought some yarn to do one for myself and I might do it this weekend as I am freezing at the moment and need something to warm my shoulders :)

So, go take a look at the pattern and do one for yourself. Make it in bulky yarn and have something to keep you warm or in a light yarn and make something fashionable to wear in the upcoming spring or fall depending on where are you :)

Happy hooking everyone,

  1. Well done Salma! What a clever idea to use bulkier yarn and turn the scarf into a shawl! I love both your colour choices! I last visited Egypt in the winter months and it was indeed very warm!!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so glad that you liked what I have done and I dare say that both my mom and my grandmom put them in good use this last few days as the weather was freezing in Cairo and we had no sunshine for few days at a row!
